Daneen West began getting interested in brain health after the birth of her third child. She saw specialist after specialist to try to get some clarity on the symptoms her oldest son was experiencing in pre-school.

Daneen learned more about the brain through research and therapy. And that genetics "loads the gun, but doesn't pull the trigger". Environment and eating habits play a big role in brain health.

When she changed her family's diet to mainly whole foods, with less sugar, colourings and additives, she saw a huge improvement. Her goal was to target their brain health, and especially decrease inflammation.

What Daneen noticed is that she thought her family was eating healthy, but she realized that she was buying packaged foods with hidden sugars... even if they're organic! Now she shops the perimeter of the grocery store because that's where you find whole foods.
She learned to read and question labels, and replacing industrial foods with less processed versions, and to identify added sugars and starches even in non-sweet foods.

As an advocate for brain health and a healthy lifestyle, including restorative sleep, Daneen's shares her expertise in this episode. And it includes not eating sugar!
