Foundation Worldview Curriculum: Equipping Kids with Critical Thinking Skills
The Foundation Worldview curriculum aims to equip children with critical thinking skills by challenging them to think critically about the ideas they encounter. Elizabeth Urbana discusses how children, despite receiving biblically based education and church involvement, often passively adopt cultural ideas without questioning. This led Elizabeth to create resources to teach children critical thinking and biblical discernment, resulting in empowering transformations among students.
Importance of Teaching Critical Thinking to Kids
Teaching critical thinking to kids is essential for several reasons. First, it fulfills the biblical command to love God with our minds and not be swayed by deceptive philosophies. Second, it empowers children to discern truth from falsehood, enabling them to navigate the diverse ideas in today's culture. Third, teaching critical thinking equips children to confidently share the gospel and engage with the world around them.
Role of Parents in Teaching Critical Thinking
Parents play a crucial role in teaching critical thinking to children, regardless of homeschooling or attending public school. Intentionality in guiding children towards truth while engaging in open conversations can cultivate critical thinking skills. Leveraging resources like the Foundation Worldview curriculum can aid parents in equipping children with transferable critical thinking abilities.
Philosophy & Critical Thinking: Navigating Good vs. Bad Philosophy
Exploring philosophy and critical thinking is vital for Christians to understand the love of wisdom and discern between good and bad philosophy. While bad philosophy exists in culture, introducing good philosophy prepares children to combat fallacious reasoning. Teaching logical reasoning, identifying fallacies, and fostering a love for wisdom through education and resources like the Foundation Worldview curriculum can empower children to think critically and navigate the complexities of today's world.
I got the great privilege to interview Elizabeth Urbanowicz, the founder of Foundation Worldview, about the tools she and her team have created to teach our kids critical thinking and life skills. I LOVE this stuff! Foundation Worldview is a Comparative Worldview Curriculum for kids and teens. Several years into Elizabeth's teaching experience, she realized that despite being raised in Christian homes, attending a Christian school, and being active in church, her students thought more like the culture than like Christ. So she did something about it!
I ask her about this curriculum, discuss my personal interest in it, ask about parents that might feel discouraged, and overall how and why it's important to teach our kids -now more than ever!- about truth and critical thinking.
