136. Lessons in Team Habits with Charlie Gilkey
Are your team habits good or bad? Often times, we haven't asked ourselves this question, but habits exist within teams whether or not we are aware of them. Small bad habits can ruin morale and lead to people leaving. Luckily, Charlie Gilkey joins us on the podcast to discuss lessons from his new book, Team Habits.
We cover why team habits matter, how to create a feeling of belonging within your team, tactics for decision making and why you should never take on more than five projects at a time. Whether your team has good habits or bad habits, this conversation will provide context for different ways to build great team habits and as a result, happier teams.
Charlie Gilkey has advised hundreds of teams, from Fortune 100 companies to tiny nonprofits, through Productive Flourishing, the coaching and training company he founded.
His current book, Team Habits: How Small Actions Lead to Extraordinary Results, shows how changing your team habits is the most effective, enduring way to improve team performance and belonging. His previous book, Start Finishing: How to Go from Idea to Done, is a Publishers Weekly Fall 2019 Top 10 Business and Economics Book, a Kirkus Reviews Top Indie Book, and the winner of the Eric Hoffer Grand Prize in 2020. He’s also a former Army logistics officer and near-PhD in philosophy.
