RHP#018. Dali and Finn, Founders of Nalu Clothing. Inspiring Young Entrepreneurs
Nalu Clothing Founders. Future Leaders. Hustlers. Siblings. Surfer and Designer. World Travellers. Role Models. Empowerers. Life Changers. Educationalists.
It's not every day in your life that you get to meet such amazing kids, like our guests this week. The fact that they are only 17 and 14 years old is going to leave an impression on you when you hear of the impact they are making on this planet.
Dali and Finn, have certainly lived a colourful life in their short time and even though they are still only teenagers, they've managed to explore most corners of the earth, as well as leave a trail of positivity, optimism, a sense of enthusiasm and empowerment wherever they go.
Dali and Finn are brother and sister, born in Bergen, Netherlands. Their bond and purpose in life however, goes deeper than just being blood relations.
When they were 11 and 8 years old, their parents sat them down to discuss a family trip of rather big proportions. We guess, when you're that age a one-way ticket to Nepal sounds pretty darn cool!
As a family they spent that year traversing Asia, finding out about new cultures, making new friends, learning new sports, volunteering, learning new languages, as well as getting homeschooled. The fact that they were lugging 30 kg of textbooks around with them, shows you how much value they placed on education, probably without even realising it at the time.
After settling in Bali, each year they would return to India, where Vismai and Joyti, their parents, would spend their time volunteering in the local community as Chiropractors. One year on their return visit, they noticed many of their friend’s were not there anymore. They eventually find out that at the age of 13, the Indian government no longer subsidised the children's schooling. If they couldn’t afford the $10’s for a school uniform, then they could no longer attend school.
For Dali and Finn, this was something they almost couldn't comprehend and the idea of Nalu Clothing was born. To this day they have donated over 8,000 school uniforms to children in India. As a result, enrolment in school has doubled, grades have gone up 25%, and teenage pregnancies are trending downwards.
Dali and Finn started this purely because it was the right thing to do and had no other intentions in mind. The future certainly looks bright and hopeful for all of us with kids like these, who are our future leaders.
In the Podcast, we touched on many other subjects; the impact of the fashion industry on the environment, child labour, modern schooling, surfing the barrel and the toxins in our clothes.
This truly is a remarkable story about two kids who clearly have the biggest hearts and huge amount of compassion and kindness in them.
Get ready to be inspired by these fantastic young beings.
We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did.
