Despite her struggles, As May excelled academically, attending Yale University. However, she experienced hallucinations, causing her to leave the university and face the disappointment of not being allowed to return.
Finding Hope and Advocating for Mental Health
As May pursued further education, she explored psychology and fiction writing, searching for answers about her mental health. Eventually, she learned that she might have schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. Embracing this diagnosis, she found solace in understanding her experiences and advocating for herself and others. As a writer, she shared her story and published an essay collection, bringing awareness to different perspectives on mental health. As May's writing and advocacy led to positive change, inspiring Yale University to revise their mental health policies for students.
