Our guest today is Tahera Hasan - a lawyer by profession, she specialises in family law and deals with international adoption cases, custody cases, divorce and khula matters and family settlements. She is experienced in litigation issues connected with children. Ms Hasan has assisted foreign courts when required, with reference to the Pakistan Adoption process by rendering opinions, giving affidavits and all other related documentation. She has also assisted courts in Karachi in understanding the process for International adoption and the process of home studies conducted in the Applicant’s home country. Her work also focuses on advisory work on structuring of Media Houses, Television Channels and Radio Stations, agreements and all transactions related to production and distribution of films, broad range of commercial agreements and transactions in the media and technology fields and work to all players in the media industry.
Ms. Hasan is the founding member and Director of Imkaan Welfare Organisation, the founder of Karachi Adoption Resource Centre (KARC). KARC deals with guidance and support in all child adoption related matters – also aiming to break the stigma around the same. Imkaan was created with the sole purpose of child welfare as its scope of work. All Imkaan projects have been conceived, initiated and implemented under her supervision. Currently Imkaan runs a Maternity home, KHEL a recreation and learning center for children, Pasban-e-Mahaul - a solid waste management program, Sehat Ghar - Mother and child healthcare centre and Imkaan Ghar - a adoption centre. Ms. Hasan has been part of numerous talks and panels focusing on different social issues, specifically rights of women and children, awareness and protection.
She was also one of the co-founders and on the board of the KaraFilm Society which held the KaraFilm Festival from 2001-2007. She was awarded the IAM Karachi award for ownership in the year 2017 and is a Commonwealth Scholar.
