Sacrificing Student Athletes to Social Media - Officer Gomez
Social media is currently being touted as a huge benefit to aspiring college athletes. Some schools even try to organize companies and other groups to come and speak with athletes and their families about how they can improve their individual social media platforms to help with recruiting and NIL (Namer, image, likeness) deals. What they don't realize is they may actually be subjecting their children to something far worse than just the standard recruiting process.
The school district that sent out the original email that spurred this conversation considered the plan more deeply and changed the proposed meeting to a broader conversation about college athletics recruiting and admissions. This is incredibly important, however, for any student athletes.
Office Gomez is a nationally recognized authority on social media risks for young people. His insights and knowledge of highly successful scams that amount to felony crimes on high school students is painfully enlightening.
