Deep dives
Elon Musk's Discussion with Kathy Wood
Elon Musk discussed various topics in an hour and a half discussion with Kathy Wood of ARK Invest. He touched on Tesla's past funding secured saga, highlighting why they opted not to go private. They also talked about AI, with Elon reiterating that Tesla is the leader in real-world AI due to their data collection set and capabilities. The discussion also delved into NHTSA, with Elon expressing respect for the enforcement division and their sensible approach to safety statistics. He noted that there are disagreements, citing the example of full stops at stop signs as a point of contention.
Cybertruck Updates
Tesla has sent out another wave of order invitations for the Cybertruck, bringing the total number of orders to 249. However, the report that claims Cybertruck deliveries are hostage to battery production hell is inaccurate. While Tesla is still ramping up 4680 battery production, the current production rate is sufficient for about 24,000 Cybertrucks per year. Tesla is making progress in improving yields and production, and additional production lines are being introduced. The report's claim that the 4680 batteries are a constraint is not accurate.
Updates on X, Toyota, and Ford
In terms of X, progress is being made towards obtaining money transmitter licenses in all states, and payments are expected to roll out by the middle of next year. Toyota is facing issues as one of its subsidiaries has been found to be rigging safety tests, leading to a production halt. As for Ford, only about 50% of dealers have opted to sell electric vehicles, but this is temporary with another opportunity for dealers to opt in in 2027. Buick dealers have also taken buyout offers to not sell electric vehicles, potentially opening up opportunities for Ford's sales approach.
