Episode notes
Always Calibrate To Zero Before Use
- Calibrate the EMMA before use by holding both buttons through the full countdown so it reads zero.
- Do not calibrate while attached to a patient or circuit with exhaled CO2 flowing.
Fix Leaks Before Trusting Readings
- Ensure a fully sealed circuit on pocket masks or ET tubes because leaks will miss waveform detail and corrupt ETCO2 readings.
- Inspect masks, tube seals, and use dressings or gel to improve face seals before trusting numbers.
Save Batteries And Set Alarm Limits
- Power down by removing the circuit and the EMMA will auto-shut after ~15 seconds to save batteries.
- Press and hold the arrow buttons to set high/low alarm limits to help manage ventilation targets.
