As the world looks to move towards net zero and Europe pulls away from Russian oil and gas, the Brazilian market for fossil fuels is expected to remain strong in the short to medium term.

Despite a current need to keep the oil and gas market alive, Brazil’s government under the Lula administration looks to prioritise moves towards energy transition. One of the focus areas is the development of clean and low carbon hydrogen, where Brazil seeks to become a global leader.

Brazil is still a developing economy, and Valois and Bezerra-Fischer discuss the challenges that can cause on the journey to net zero.
