Comics journalism and genocide: Requiem for Gaza

This week we are sharing a clip from our sister podcast Courage My Friends. In the third episode of the 11th season of Courage My Friends, host Resh Budhu interviews award-winning cartoonist, author, and pioneer of comics journalism, Joe Sacco, and his newly released book, Requiem for Gaza, a profound work of graphic reportage co-authored with journalist Chris Hedges.

They discuss the experience of Palestinian families displaced by the ongoing genocide, the role of comics journalism in conveying the scale and dimensions of this moment and the imprint of history upon it, and the obligation to truth amid the sacrifices and silences of journalism in a time of arrogant power and radical change.
