Everyday multiple sets of parents are confronted with the words, “I’m gay” by their children. For some parents, that’s grounds for a celebration, for others it creates shock and confusion, and for some, it creates panic, fears, and perhaps even anger. Given the increased number of Gen Z’s identifying as LGBTQ+ the changes are all too likely that many parents feel utterly ill-equipped on what to do in the event they’re faced with how to parent a non-straight child. In this episode of CSMS we’ll discuss some practical ways to keep your family intact in the event your child comes out gay. There’s no easy way forward, but avoiding the subject is certainly not the answer.
