Dr. Wada - Skin Products and Allergies
Did you know that many skincare products actually contain ingredients that could be allergens to you?
Sounds counterintuitive, right?
That's why we are so excited to be joined today by @CrunchyAllergist Kara Wada, M.D. Dr. Wada is an allergist and immunologist. We're going to discuss why some ingredients cause allergic reactions in people and what to do about it.
Many people who use Million Marker's Detect & Detox Test Kit and test high for BPA, phthalates, and other hormone-disrupting chemicals, are usually exposed through personal care products. We're talking lotions, soaps, perfumes, etc.
The chemicals we test for disrupt your hormones. However, many of these products also contain known allergens (like phenoxyethanol). Studies show that other ingredients (like parabens, which we test for) can increase the allergens' effects (like in the case of phenoxyethanol).
When it comes to personal products, your body must contend with packaging and ingredients. So, navigating a healthier lifestyle might be challenging. Be sure to ask some questions in the comments.
