214: Sleep and Other Stuff - The Pediatrician’s Perspective with Dr. Sarah Miller

"The sleep state is just as active, if not more so, than the awake state. Your brain is not asleep. It's just active in a different way and helping your body heal, helping your minds formulate thoughts, memories, ideas, and creativity. And it is critical to everything physically, mentally, and emotionally."

We’re back with another episode of the Pediatrician's Perspective, where I sit down with Dr. Sarah Miller, the doctor that I'm writing a book with, and I just thought it would be a good idea to bring what we talk about in private to the podcast airwaves and just share our conversation with you. If you're not getting enough sleep, you're not alone. In fact, according to a recent study, nearly one third of Americans are sleep deprived. And, as Dr. Sarah Miller points out, this lack of sleep can have far-reaching consequences. Not only does it make it difficult to focus and be productive, but it can also lead to weight gain, moodiness, and even depression.

During our conversation, we reveal strategies to help your kids get better sleep, and get their homework done faster with better results. We also reveal some good tips you can also follow to make sure you get enough sleep too. We both agree that good sleep hygiene and habits are the best health habits you can develop. Many other health challenges stem from our chronic lack of sleep.

Here are some steps you can follow to get better health, productivity, creativity.:

  1. Realize the importance of sleep and the benefits it provides.
  2. Create a bedtime routine and stick to it.
  3. Make sure you are getting enough sleep each night.

As always, thanks for listening, and be sure and head over to Facebook and you can join my free group Mastermind Parenting Community, where we post tips and tools and do pop up Live conversations where I do extra teaching and coaching to support you in helping your strong-willed children so that they can FEEL better and DO better. If you enjoyed this episode and think that others could benefit from listening, please share it!
