Women, Life, Freedom - a conversation with Maral Saffar a movement activist in Sweden
In 2022 a movement exploded out of the killing of the young Mahasa Amini by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Iran. It was a brutal awakening for many birthing protests across the world as well as grim retribution by the regime. In this episode I catch up with an old friend and freedom activist to hear how the fight for Women Life Freedom continues to shape her life and the life of many others.

During the recent protests in Iran, a song called Baraye by singer/songwriter Shervin Hajipour became famous among protesters both outside and inside Iran. The title, Baraye, means “because of” or “for the sake of” in Persian and it is the word that starts every verse of the song. The song was composed during the early days of the 2022 uprising and soon became the anthem of the movement.
