Why Prayer Releases Spiritual Power
Summary: God’s salvation plan for Adam, his descendants, and his kingdom is not for those living in 2021 to withdraw from this evil world and wait around for Jesus to return to destroy evil. The gospel of the kingdom, taught by Jesus, is that Jesus reigns right now and he wants us to seek to spread his kingdom of righteousness over the earth, in this life. In this pursuit, God tells us that our battle is not with flesh and blood. We are to love every human being made of flesh and blood—even our enemies. But we are to FIGHT the wicked spiritual forces the lie behind what is happening in our everyday world and even inside our own minds. This battle has already been won ultimately by Jesus—the only human who can defeat evil. So, we must clothe ourselves in his spiritual armor and especially FIGHT through prayer in his name, saying “May your kingdom come. May your (moral, not sovereign) will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” PRAYER IS THE PRIMARY WEAPON FOR ADVANCING CHRIST’S KINGDOM OF RIGHTEOUSNEES OVER THE KINGOM OF DARKNESS.
For Further Prayerful Thought:
- Why do think Christians don’t see prayer more as a weapon?
- What is wrong with saying that after the resurrection, Jesus left this world to go back to heaven and be with God?
- What does Jesus want Christians to during this stage of salvation history, between his ascension to God’s right hand and his final return?
- Why is it important, that Jesus prefaced his command to make disciples of all nations with, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me, Therefore…”?
