The Reliability of the Bible: Authenticity and Accuracy
The Bible's authenticity and accuracy are supported by the numerous copies of its texts that closely align with each other. Although the original autographs of the Old and New Testaments no longer exist, the large number of copies, especially in the New Testament, allow for precise reconstruction of the original texts. Minor variants found in the copies do not impact any doctrinal points, and the remarkable consistency among the copies affirms their reliability. Archaeological discoveries, such as the excavation of the Pool of Bethesda, have also provided evidence that aligns with biblical accounts. These findings, along with extra-biblical sources that corroborate biblical events, contribute to the confidence in the accuracy and authenticity of the Bible.
The Old Testament: Sacred Traditions and Canonization
The Old Testament, particularly the 39 books recognized by Protestants, has a rich tradition associated with it. These books, considered sacred by Jewish predecessors and treated with utmost care, were stored in the temple and had their authenticity upheld. The Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures, also plays a role in understanding the Old Testament, although some books not recognized by Protestants are found in certain versions. The fact that the mentioned disputed books, like Esther, were hotly debated demonstrates the rigorous process of examining and verifying the authenticity and authority of these sacred writings.
Evidence from Archaeology and Extra-Biblical Sources
Archaeological finds, such as the discovery of the Pool of Bethesda and the verification of more than 30 countries, 54 cities, and nine islands mentioned by Luke in the New Testament, have provided evidence that aligns with the biblical narratives. These archaeological findings, along with extra-biblical accounts that mirror biblical events, support the historical accuracy of the Bible. The flood accounts from various ancient Near Eastern cultures also indicate the global impact of such an event. These confirmations through archaeology and other sources bolster the credibility and authenticity of the biblical narratives.

Susan Lim, the author, shares her personal journey of faith. Growing up in a Buddhist family, she encountered Jesus as a teenager and became a Christian. Despite the initial resistance from her family and the cultural conflicts it raised, Susan's encounter with the love and presence of Jesus solidified her faith. She highlights how Jesus wrote Himself into the narrative of humanity, making Himself accessible and relatable to all. Susan's story illustrates the transformative power of encountering the risen God and the personal conviction that comes with knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior.
