Liverpool dominated the first half with an Ibou Konate header and a superb team goal finished off by Sadio Mane taking the Reds into a deserved 2-0 lead, which could and perhaps should have been more.
The hosts came out fighting in the second half and caused a scare when the brilliant young forward Darwin Nunez clawed one back, but Luis Diaz would have the last laugh against his former Portuguese club rivals, rounding the keeper to ensure Liverpool would head home with a two goal advantage.
