Deep dives
Approaching new terrains
When it comes to new territories, I am not fearless, but I focus on the potential upside and the worst-case scenario. I weigh the risks and rewards and ask myself what's the worst that can happen and what's the best that can happen. If I see that the potential benefits outweigh the potential drawbacks, I embrace the opportunity and take measured courage. It's about assessing the opportunity cost and being willing to step out of my comfort zone to learn and grow.
Understanding personal development
Personal development is crucial to me, and I go all-in to learn and grow. I have a breadth of knowledge across various subjects from continuously exploring and trying new things. I am not attached to specific hobbies or topics, but rather focus on what interests me and what helps me grow. I believe in the power of experience and learning through trial and error. I also prioritize understanding how I learn best, optimizing my learning experiences accordingly, and always asking questions to enhance my knowledge and skills.
Importance of mentors
Although I don't have a specific mentor, I value the importance of surrounding myself with people who can provide guidance and insights. I prioritize learning from experienced individuals who have real-world knowledge and can share their expertise. I believe that experience is a valuable teacher and can provide valuable lessons and insights. Instead of relying solely on mentors, I focus on gaining experience, broadening my knowledge, and seeking out opportunities for growth.
Challenges in the design industry
One aspect of the design industry that bothers me is the lack of proposing solutions. I believe it is essential for individuals to bring forward suggestions, proposals, and possible solutions when discussing design challenges or issues. I've noticed that many design conversations tend to be quick reactions without offering tangible solutions. It is important to acknowledge the need for substance and propose actionable ideas when engaging in design discussions. This approach fosters productive conversations and helps move the industry forward.
Understanding the Gray Areas in Design
One myth in design and life is the belief that there is an absolute answer to every question. Designers often seek clarity and definitive answers, but in reality, the field is filled with uncertainties and constantly evolving practices. Each designer may have a unique process and approach, and what works for one may not work for another. The key is to try different approaches, learn from others, and ultimately develop your own process.
The Language Barrier between Design and Business
While designers have been striving for a seat at the business table, the reality is that many designers struggle to be truly heard and understood. This is because designers and business professionals often speak different languages. Designers focus on empathy, aesthetics, and the user experience, while businesses emphasize goals, profitability, and market success. To bridge this gap, designers need to actively learn the language of business and understand the needs and priorities of other stakeholders, fostering better communication and collaboration.
