Reid Mitenbuler has spent the last several years researching how whiskey has influenced American history (and vice versa). The result of this research is his new book, Bourbon Empire: The Past and Future of America's Whiskey. In it, Reid takes a deep-dive into the history of American distilleries, from the pre-revolutionary war era all the way up to modern day manufacturing methods.

In this episode, Chad and Reid sit down to discuss how whiskey grew from a few backyard distilleries to an industry that pumps out millions of bottles a year. Reid also talks about the secret history behind the industry that you won’t see in the commercials.
