Impact of War on Labor Force

Ukraine's ongoing war has severely impacted its labor force, leading to a significant decline in available workers across various sectors, particularly construction. The construction industry alone has seen a decrease of 30 to 40 percent in its workforce since the invasion began, as approximately 14 million Ukrainians have been displaced, with many still hesitant to travel for fear of conscription. The introduction of a new conscription law in May has exacerbated the issue, forcing men ages 25 to 60 to keep their military registrations updated, creating anxiety among workers who worry about being drafted. This fear has driven some men to opt for jobs in the shadow economy or to register as private entrepreneurs, further straining the nation's economy.
