Evening Edition: New Hope, Old Fears Over Syria
During his trip to the Middle East, President Trump met with the new Syrian President, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, who took over after the fall of the Assad regime this past January.
This came a day after he pledged to lift sanctions on the war-torn nation. Some, including former President Obama and members of Congress, praised Trump's decision and hoped Americans could build a possible relationship with the new government.
However, some have raised concerns about the interim Syrian President's involvement with extremist groups.
Indiana Republican Congressman Marlin Stutzman met with Al-Sharaa and members of the Syrian regime last month. He joins the Rundown to explain why he's optimistic about Syria's future yet understands why America must be vigilant and ensure that it operates in the best interests of our country.
