Why this strategist expects volatility in Q1

As the new year kicks off, investors are eager to uncover what 2025 holds, particularly in light of the incoming Trump administration, the evolving world of AI, and the volatile conclusion of 2024 for markets. Michael Reinking, senior market strategist at the New York Stock Exchange, joins Stocks in Translation to discuss the year ahead with hosts Yahoo Finance’s markets and data editor Jared Blikre and producer Sydnee Fried.

Amid challenging market conditions — including Washington’s policies and two consecutive years of 20% returns — Reinking notes that “valuations, which are a little bit more stretched than they have been historically,” suggest heightened volatility ahead. Noting, “If you look at four-year presidential election cycles… the first quarter does tend to be one of… the more rocky quarters,” said Reinking.
