This week, I am joined by Deanna M. Young to discuss her new book "Umblaming God: Interpreting the Old Testament Through the Lens of Jesus Christ."
The Old Testament is filled with stories that depict God as one who demands and even commits horrifying acts of violence. The New Testament tells us that when we’ve seen Jesus, we’ve seen God—and yet Jesus never demands or commits acts of violence. How do we make sense of this?
Using Open and Relational Theology, Deanna presents alternative in- interpretations to four Old Testament stories—Noah and the Flood, God “telling” Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, Canaanite genocide, and the book of Job. These new interpretations better reflect God as love, not as a God of control. Enjoy!
