Dean hit rock bottom in his early twenties, and was at one point contemplating suicide as a way out. But as the saying goes, when the student is ready, the teacher appears. And for Dean, that teacher came in the form of an ecumenical spiritual teacher named Swami Satchidananda, who told him:
“Nothing can bring us lasting health and happiness. That's the bad news. The good news is we already have it.”
Dean changed his diet, learned to meditate, did some exercise, had more love in heart, and transformed his life.
“And so the question is not, ‘how can I get what I think I need to be happy and healthy’. But rather, ‘how can I stop disturbing what's already there?’ And that's a really empowering realization.”
