Stewart’s research is on sovereignty, violence, human and post-human archives. He has recently published articles on international law and the humanities, and on the autonomy and heteronomy of law. His current major project explores the multiple forms and sources of legal norms (heteronomy) as a counter-narrative to liberal positivist accounts of the autonomy of law. This includes challenging the opposition between life/non-life.
