Parenting is not merely about surviving each day—it's about preparing our children for all the relationships they will encounter throughout their lives. In episode three of "Raising Godly Warriors," Duane Sheriff outlines three fundamental principles known as the three R's: Rules, Restraints, and Relationships. 

The first R, Rules, reminds us that authority structures exist everywhere in life, from school to work to marriage, and children must learn to respect authority to prosper. The second R, Restraints, teaches us about boundaries and consequences—the biblical principle of sowing and reaping found in Galatians 6. Our children must learn that actions have consequences, that delayed gratification builds character, and that love itself constrains us from harming others. The third R, Relationships, reminds us that rules and restraints without relationship leads to rebellion. Everything parents do should be rooted in connection, spending time together, and maintaining open hearts even during correction. When we understand that all of parenting is ultimately about preparing our children for a relationship with God and healthy relationships with others, everything changes.
