Case File 185-The Secrets of the Vatican

In 1939, construction workers and archaeologists excavating the grottoes beneath St. Peter’s Basilica stumbled upon a necropolis that held a number of stone coffins. One of the coffins held an inscription that indicated that St. Peter himself had been buried within. The bones were placed inside an unassuming shoe box and then recovered by the Vatican who kept them secured and away from close scrutiny. Vatican correspondent Bruno Bartoloni wrote that the bones were kept so closely guarded mainly because of a 1,000-year curse that had been placed on the resting place of St. Peter that would befall those who disturbed his final resting place. The Vatican has existed for over 2,000 years with its long-reaching influence in the western world-shaping many of the important events of history.
