Deep dives
Love Expressed in Service
Jesus commands us to love each other as He has loved us. He exemplified love through service by washing the disciples' feet, and we are called to emulate His servitude. When God opens His hypothetical book, He desires to see His children expressing love through service. This may involve serving in the church and caring for the needs of others. At Dallas Theological Seminary, love expressed in service is a core value that we seek to embody. As a community of faith, we have an opportunity to participate in an annual service project, partnering with a local ministry called Feed My Starving Children. Through this project, we can tangibly demonstrate our love by serving alongside one another and making a visible impact for the gospel.
Love Expressed in Sacrifice
Jesus teaches that there is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. He not only laid down His life for His friends, but also for His enemies, including all believers. As followers of Christ, we are called to emulate His sacrificial love. This sacrifice may involve giving up our desires for the growth of others, choosing to serve in ministry instead of pursuing lucrative opportunities, sacrificing our time and finances for the Lord's work, and laying down every part of our lives for Him. Love expressed in sacrifice is a position of gratitude, letting go of self and giving our everything to the one who is worthy.
The Challenge of Love
As believers, we are called to love others above ourselves. This challenge encompasses both love expressed in service and love expressed in sacrifice. By actively engaging in these acts of love, we reflect God's love and His command to love one another. At Dallas Theological Seminary, we have the opportunity to engage in a specific service project with Feed My Starving Children, where we can join together as a community of faith to serve and make a visible impact. Love should be a defining characteristic of our lives as believers, and through these acts of love, we can fulfill our calling and reflect Christ to the world.
