The Importance of Building a Purpose-Based Identity

A performance-based identity, where our sense of self is connected to how well we perform relative to others, can lead to episodes of unconscious self-sabotage. It sets us up for failure by building in excuses in case we don't meet our own expectations. This type of identity is not sustainable over time, as our ancient brains are wired to detect threats, both physical and social. However, transitioning to a purpose-based identity, where our sense of self is rooted in our purpose and not our performance, can lead to greater freedom and fulfillment.
