Synopsis: This is a special episode of The Straits Times' video series The Big Story, hosted by Hairianto Diman and Olivia Quay.

Over one billion Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in China, following a slow start to the vaccination campaign in the country. However, it still faces several challenges in reaching a post-pandemic society. Scientists have acknowledged they need to ensure the Sinovac shots are more efficacious.

Observers have also pointed out that even if much of the population has been inoculated, borders are still unlikely to fully reopen and quarantine will continue to be a travel requirement for the foreseeable future.
