Labour experts say Ontario's pre-emptive use of the notwithstanding clause in legislation intended to prevent a CUPE strike has implications for unions across the country. Premier Doug Ford has backtracked on a promise and will remove land from the environmentally protected Greenbelt to build new homes. Citing job security and job safety, the union that represents 2,200 GO Transit bus operators is on strike. A federal court judge has ruled Premier Ford and former Solicitor General Sylvia Jones do not have to testify at the Emergencies Act inquiry.
