Word Formation and Affixes

Word formation involves building new words with the help of affixes, specifically prefixes and suffixes. Prefixes are added to the beginning of a root word, while suffixes are added to the end. For example, the word 'unacceptable' combines the prefix 'un-' and the root 'acceptable'. By learning and understanding common affixes, such as 'able', 'ous', and 'ism', learners can expand their vocabulary and improve their pronunciation.
