Who do you say I am? - Questions from Jesus - Steven Gibbs | Stonecreek Church
What you think about Jesus is the most important thing about you. This past Sunday, Pastor Steven unpacked what it meant when Jesus asked His disciples, “who do YOU say that I am?” The questions that Jesus asked us are an invitation to life as it is supposed to be, and an invitation for a new identity. Are you pursuing a life that helps you hear God’s questions? Or are you pursuing a life that perpetuates bondage to the lies we’ve been told our whole lives?
Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
Matthew 16:13 - 20
Questions from Jesus aren’t for information, but are an invitation to the life He wants for us.
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Am I pursuing a life that helps you hear God’s questions?
“I saw in the night visions,
and behold, with the clouds of heaven
there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days
and was presented before him.
And to him was given dominion
and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him;
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one
that shall not be destroyed.”
Daniel 7:13-14
Where do I get my view of Jesus?
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Matthew 16:15
Must get Jesus right, or nothing is right.

For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
