May 15, 2024
20:17

On this edition of Humans of AI, we have the pleasure of speaking with Patrick Hall, an assistant professor of Decision Sciences at George Washington University. He also advises large banks and government agencies on AI risk management. As a passionate believer in asking the right questions and dispelling magical thinking, Patrick discusses the importance of using the scientific method in AI governance to demystify “black box” technology. Rather than accept the unexplainability of AI models, he shows us how and why we need to more deeply understand these systems so we can mitigate risks and manage this emerging technology with intention. Patrick leaves us with a realistic and grounded perspective of how to navigate the complexities of AI rooted in rationality and science.
