Understanding Fine-Tuning

Fine-tuning refers to the sensitivity of a universe's habitability to changes in its physical parameters, which can be classified into global and local categories. Global fine-tuning encompasses universal traits such as physical constants and cosmic initial conditions that must be set at the universe's inception, including fundamental particle masses and strengths of the four fundamental forces. Local fine-tuning, conversely, pertains to characteristics specific to planets, stars, and galaxies, which exhibit a range of properties that are not universal but rather localized to a specific context. Differentiating between these two types of fine-tuning is essential, as it allows for an understanding of how life can adapt to local conditions while observing the fixed parameters of the universe.
