Dr. Joel Breakstone directs the Stanford History Education Group (SHEG). He leads the group’s efforts to research, develop, and disseminate free curriculum and assessments. His award-winning research has been covered by outlets ranging from the Washington Post to NPR.  Breakstone has conducted professional development workshops for school districts and professional organizations across the country. He received a Ph.D. from the Stanford Graduate School of Education. He previously taught high school history in Vermont.
