5. What it Means to be Human Pt 1

Here’s the question we are asking in today’s episode: Why is there a story about the first human looking for a partner among the animals? Is this an offensive sexist narrative? Is it a “dumb” primitive story? Or could this be about something so much more...a story about morality, ethics, and what it means to be human. Our journey takes us through Babylon, the Holocaust, Ancient Greece, and back to our present day. An old Babylonian creation story, one of the most famous holocaust poems, and “this is Sparta!” will all help paint a picture of humanity’s natural tendency that we as societies still struggle with today: how do we actually treat people well? This is exactly why this seemingly odd story of the first human looking for a partner among animals is in the Bible. Once I learned part of what this story is about, I’ve gone back to it time and time again for inspiration and guidance in my attempt to love others well. I hope this conversation will help you do the same. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/matthew9793/support
