Supreme Court Strikes Down Electoral Bond Scheme
In a historic decision, the Supreme Court has declared the electoral bond scheme proposed by the late Arun Chaitley in 2017 as unconstitutional. The scheme allowed individuals to make anonymous donations to political parties, making it the primary mode of donating for parties like the BJP and Congress. The court ruled that the scheme violated the fundamental right to information and struck down provisions that allowed unlimited corporate contributions as well.
China Occupies Border Defense Villages
China has been constructing border defense villages along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) bordering India's northeastern region for more than five years. These villages, which were previously unoccupied, have now started to be occupied by Chinese nationals. With hundreds of such villages constructed, these dual-use infrastructures raise concerns about China's territorial claims and add tension to the already strained India-China relationship.
