HEALING 101: Wendy Robinson on CALM’s mission to break the stigma and save lives

In this Healing 101 episode, I have the honor of speaking to Wendy Robinson, the Head of Services for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). Wendy's extensive experience in the field of mental health and her role at CALM have equipped her with a deep understanding of the pressing issue of suicide prevention. 

CALM is dedicated to helping individuals who are in the darkest depths of despair, feeling that suicide is their only escape. Wendy delves into the critical issue of rising suicide rates, shedding light on the socio-economic groups that are disproportionately affected. She emphasizes the importance of destigmatizing the word "suicide," dispelling the myth that discussing it may plant the idea in someone's mind. Instead, open dialogue can be a lifeline for those in crisis. Wendy also highlights a crucial point: suicide doesn't always manifest in an obvious manner, underlining the need for vigilant awareness and support in our communities.

This episode reminds us of the importance of reaching out and fostering a culture of empathy, understanding, and support for those in need.
