In today’s Talmud pages, Kiddushin 49 and 50, the Rabbis discuss what level of a scholar one must be when the promise to be a scholar is in their request for betrothal. Surprisingly for the Talmud, the Rabbis do not say that when calling yourself a scholar, you must be one of the greats, but rather that you must be able to identify what you know, and no more.
