Infiltrating Politics: The Rise of Fundamentalist Christianity

Throughout Ontario, conservative Christian churches have been mobilizing to influence political decisions and promote their religious agenda. Many of these churches have campaigned against LGBTQ+ rights, using their faith as justification. They have formed networks and advocacy groups, such as Liberty Coalition Canada, in an effort to combat what they view as the erosion of traditional values. These fundamentalist Christians have opposed COVID-19 lockdown measures, embraced conspiracy theories, and sought to challenge progressive social changes, such as the push for transgender rights. They express a desire to establish a Christian theocracy and see themselves as embattled defenders of their faith.
