In this episode, Niko and Srinath talk to Philipp Dettmer, the founder, CEO and head writer of Kurzgesagt, the biggest YouTube science channel producing short humorous animations to tell scientific stories and inspire people to learn about space, technology, biology, history and philosophy.

Philipp talks about how Kurzgesagt came to be: from a Bachelor thesis explainer animation to a video going viral on YouTube to a hardworking team of researchers, writers, designers, animators and producers that is behind the videos you see now.

We discuss using YouTube as the platform for science communication and working in an uncertain environment overflowing with constantly updating information and major controversies. And Philipp explains the process that an idea goes through in over a thousand working hours before it comes onto the screen, and the role of the scientists in this pipeline.
