Why Did The Catholic Church Fight Galileo About The Sun Being The Center Of The Solar System?

Why did the Catholic Church fight Galileo about the sun being at the center of the solar system, especially since the Bible does not state that the earth is at the center?  Though Catholic leaders (mis) used Bible verses in their arguments, the issue was more about earthly control and influence than it was about the Bible or Christianity.
