Biden Vetoes Judicial Expansion

President Biden has exercised his executive powers by vetoing a bipartisan bill aiming to add 66 federal judges by 2035. This bill would have marked the first significant expansion of the judiciary since 1990, yet Biden criticized it as hastily assembled and politically motivated, as it was passed after the election. Judicial leaders expressed concern over the veto, highlighting the significant increase in federal caseloads, which have surged by 346% since 2004, leaving around 80,000 cases pending. In addition to the veto, Biden also commuted the sentences of 37 federal death row inmates to life without parole, further igniting discussions on criminal justice reform.
