In the early 2000s, Steve Churchill was fascinated by worms that moved into his hot compost pile after it cooled, transforming it into rich worm castings. This prompted his own research into the role of worms in soil, and he started his own worm bin. Steve founded the Urban Worm Company in 2014, which was at first an educational blog about vermicomposting. It has since transformed into a growing business with 7 figures of annual revenue as of 2022.
