Witold Pilecki's Mission of Resistance

Witold Pilecki voluntarily infiltrated Auschwitz to gather intelligence about the Nazi atrocities occurring there. Despite his suffering from a recent typhus infection, he remained focused on his mission, seeking out fellow prisoners to assess the situation and relay information to the Polish resistance. Pilecki felt a deep sense of guilt as he recognized the black market that had developed in the camp, which afforded him some survival—the very possessions stolen from the victims. His frustration grew as he learned that messages he had sent about the horrors at Auschwitz were ignored by the resistance, which was preoccupied with other battles in the region.
