This book provides an introduction and translation of the Talmud, a foundational text in Jewish law and tradition. It was translated from French by Henrietta Szold, based on Arsène Darmesteter's work 'Reliques scientifiques'. The Talmud is a comprehensive collection of Jewish oral traditions and discussions on Jewish law, ethics, and customs.

This volume, revised in 2005, updates the original 1981 commentary with contemporary values and fresh translations. It includes a gender-sensitive version of the JPS translation with largely gender-neutral God language and new translations of Genesis and the haftarot by Rabbi Chaim Stern. The book is reorganized by parashah, includes aliyot markers, and features a helpful index. It is praised for its compendium of classical and modern sources, enhancing worship and study for readers.

It is divided into the Old Testament, which includes books such as Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, and others that narrate the creation of the world, the history of the Israelites, and the prophetic messages. The New Testament focuses on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, along with the early Christian church and its spread. The Bible contains a wide range of genres, including historical narratives, poetry, wisdom literature, prophetic writings, and epistles.
