“• Bad apologetics
· long noticed—Evangelical apologists make bad arguments about the specialness of the Bible.
· I taught at a Christian university. In the last couple years of my PhD I worked for an apologist who taught classes in “worldview,” and even in his senior seminar he was prepping students with bad arguments about God, the Bible, the historicity of the resurrection that I was regularly challenging.
· unless Evangelicals discover new ways to interpret and express their faith that aligns with historically responsible and intellectually honest approaches to the text, the movement will crash in the next generation.
* Inspiring Philosophy’s disingenuous portrayal of the DH
· covered in video 3.1, but it is typical. It is something inherited, and easily overlooked for anyone who is not a close reader (most Christians—most people—are not close readers). I grew up with an expectation of the reliability of scripture that also clearly conveyed an internally consistent message of Jesus—when introduced to the DH, my first reaction was incredulity—it’s conditioned.
· IP presents the most feeble possible understanding of the DH; usually constructed on the basis of the names assigned to the hypothetical sources, two of which are derived from the different names for God used by J/E. English translations render YHWH into “the Lord” which obfuscates."
