TW: Miscarriage, trauma, abortion, pregnancy loss, sexual assault/violation (warning prior in audio), depression/postpartum mental disorders, racial trauma
This week we have Davinah (she/they) of Rooted Birth Doula Services (@rootedbirthdoula) on the podcast! We talk quite a bit about what it’s like during postpartum, the struggles birthing people and families go through throughout the birth journey, and how to be more empathetic and supportive as a community to birthing people and their families!
Davinah is a Doula in the Seattle area. They provide doula services for pregnancies, postpartum, pregnancy losses, and abortion! You can find her at @rootedbirthdoula on IG & on her website at bornrooted.com. They also have a birthing fund for Black individuals to help provide low-cost birth & loss support for Black birthing people in the Puget Sound Area.
We also mention a variety of resources that I wanted to post here as well! Davinah mentions a few resources including Amara, which is an organization based in the Puget Sound that supports families who are adopting, and Doula Match, which helps birthing people find a doula that works best for them!
We also talk a bit about the birthing crisis facing Black and Indigenous birthers. BIPOC individuals, but specifically Black and Indigenous people, have a drastically higher mortality rate during birth and pregnancy for both birthers and infants. This crisis is often pushed under the rug, underfunded, and ignored. Davinah and I talk a bit about this and resources to support these birthers, but I wanted to create a little list for listeners as well.
